Hypatia

Welcome to our website!

Hypatia was a woman who was both admired and extremely brilliant.  She was a Neoplatonist  philosopher, mathematician, and astronomer who lived and taught in Alexandria.  Her prominence and adherence to pagan scholasticism, the study of having no religion, is rumored to have caused her to be murdered by an angry Christian mob.  The first documents written about Hypatia were in Greek, so there is much speculation regarding her life, but even more so, her death.
